One of the things I would like to do this year is get down some rules for a ss size format besides just Henchmen Hardcore. Something short but more open than HH and with some set guild lines instead of just doing 30 ss. So I came up with Dust Up 25. I hope to get some feedback from some people on what they think or changes they would like to see. Read it over, let me know.
25 soulstones.
Master lead.
Soulstone pool of Master's cache +1 only. Any extra is discarded.
4 turns only, no flips for extras.
Scoring allowed on first turn.
May summon, but can never have more models in the crew than the crew started with.
Crew creation as normal.
Time limit in events is 40 minutes. 10 minutes per turn, basically.

Limiting the summoning limits the master on what they can do. you might as well take away Perdiata's Trick shooting or McCabe's "Take This" Now limiting time for the game will force that player to do other things besides summoning. Maybe have a chess timer

You can't do death clock because the way malifaux works. Too much interaction. Summons in such a small game can be very negative for the player without summons. You can at least summon back what you lose to keep it in check.

I agree with both of you. This rule set would make me hesitant to even take summoner. Sounds fun though. Heck, I would actually like to try a summoning Som'er list like this. Just to see how it played out. But suspect I might be better off going with a non summoning build.

I think it depends on the summoner. For Asami and Nico I would probably load up on budget minions that drop corpse counters and summon in some heavies once they start to die. And to be honest, no one master should be great at everything. That's when people start screaming op. I can think of a couple masters I think will own this format and I'm sure some of the other folks who are smarter than me have even better ideas. Anyhow, I am definitely up for trying it out.

I have given this some thought and I think I have to agree with Mike a bit here. Part of the problem is temporary summons like Lord Chompy Bits and Ikiryo who are generally summoned in for only for a short time in spurts. I would suggest a compromise of sorts with having the max be the starting number plus either 1 or 2. That gives people that summon things in differently some wiggle room with out giving them the ability to "Flood" the game. It means you have to be mindful of your summons and what you summon early.

That had been my very first idea, but I figured it would come out sounding chunky. I can go for that, summons just need a limit is such a small setting.

Aaron, Mike, and I all played a 3 way version of the Dust Up 25 rules. Aaron was going summon heavy Somer and I was playing Seamus, either of us felt our masters were "losing" a key ability. Though no one in the community plays Dreamer, we will use the crew size +1 rule. We will be using the Dust Up 25 rules in first event for the year and see how it does.

A summoner that summons more durable models than Bayou Gremlins might hit the cap easier. But you where killing them just as fast as I made them. Well, using show off I killed a few too... lol. I think it was only turn one that I was held back from summoning more than one.

There are lots of masters we don't see.
Like Sonnia, Nellie, Reva, Rasputina, Ramos, Colette, Kaeris, Sandeep, The Dreamer, Titania, Jack Daw, Hamelin, Brew Master, Mah Tucket, Ulix, Parker Barrows,

To be fair, some of them are the new masters. Cause both me and Josh have Nellie, just have not put her together yet. And I do have Jack Daw, and the Dreamer *Technically Kaeris to on sprues*. Problem is you can only get so many games in a year and a lot are campaigns were you are stuck in a faction or with a master.

Should be 52 games if you make to every Monday. The first league of the year will be fixed faction, not master. That should help some.
